Thai Aromatherapy

I just remembered something that I forgot to point out about the strange druggie on the train. It turned out the tube he was inhaling through his nose had nothing to do with drugs. As we spent more time in Thailand we noticed that a good percentage of the population carried around these tubes, and often inhale through them. So either Thailand has an enormous drug problem (which actually may be true) or we were mistaken! You can buy these things at the drug store and they are filled with fresh smelling herbs and spices. They are used as aromatherapy for motion sickness, nausea - or, probably most often, masking the stench of the ever-present Bangkok exhaust fumes! So we still don't know what was wrong with the guy, but it's not important now. Tomorrow we take an eleven hour overnight bus to Chang Mai in the north of Thailand. It's the rainy season here, but it hasn't really affected us. It usually just sprinkles in the afternoon, and is often overcast. But, tourists are usually out in full force -- there's no escape (from ourselves).
